Rainy morning in the jungle – Nature sounds – George Vlad

The sound of a rainforest waking up on a rainy day is incredibly evocative. Heavy raindrops fall on leaves and vegetation all around, and the space under the canopy creates a pleasantly claustrophobic atmosphere. Two main elements make up the soundscape. The rhythm of rain drops hitting leaves contrasts deeply with the constant insect chorus in the background. This goes on for a while, until the first few animals start stirring.

Rain in the Namib desert is incredibly rare and sounds fascinating. Sometimes it evaporates even before it reaches the ground due to the scorching heat and lack of humidity. It isn’t unheard of though, and I was fortunate enough to capture 5 minutes of it on my expedition to Namibia last year.
