Aidan Baker and Lia Bakareff, who call themselves Nadja, often play in Russia, though the name is just a coincidence. In 15 years, they have released almost twice as many atmospheric metal albums, with their sound situated somewhere between sludge, doom and ambient. Their albums are a slow descent into sludgy heavy sound that both drags you down and raises you up. Nadja have collaborated with Year of No Light and Pyramids, Black Boned Angel and Moss, A Storm of Light and OvO; Baker has also collaborated with Tim Hecker, Thor Harris and many other experimental musicians.

The tireless music experimenters are visiting Russia again, so [moisture] contacted Aidan and talked to him about the upcoming project anniversary, their favorite releases and how Viktor Pelevin influenced Nadja.

This week’s Sterrenplaten features a guest visit from Robert Beatty, in the form of an one hour mixtape. Robert is an artist and musician best known for his solo-project Three-Legged Race, as a member of noise band Hair Police, and his contributions to Burning Star Core. He’s also one of the most sought after figures in album art, and designed iconic covers for musicians as diverse as Oneohtrix Point Never, Peaking Lights, Tame Impala, Roland Kayn, Chris Forsyth, Kesha, Thee Oh Sees and Flaming Lips.
