Storyline – After resigning from his organization, a secret agent (Patrick McGoohan) is abducted and finds himself in a sunny, Continental-style village which has no name and where the taxi and phone services do not extend beyond its boundaries. After meeting an enigmatic woman (Virginia Maskell), he ultimately gets to see Number Two (Guy Doleman), the apparent village head, who tells him that he is there for the information he can give. Then Number Two gives way to a new Number Two.

Happy 50th anniversary to The Prisoner, one of the greatest TV shows of all time…

It was 50 years ago, on 5 September 1966, that the cameras rolled for the first time in the Italianate village of Portmeirion* as filming got under way for the cult 1960s adventure TV show The Prisoner.

The programme starred actor Patrick McGoohan playing the part of Number Six who is held captive in a mysterious village where the residents are known only by a number.

Each week, he would attempt to escape, only to find himself unable to break free from those who held him. But who were they? Why was he imprisoned? Which side were his captors on? And who was Number One?

«Planet 9» – Drei transneptunische Extremisten

Astronomen halten es für möglich, dass in den äusseren Gefilden unseres Sonnensystems ein bisher unbekannter Planet kreist. Jetzt erhält diese Hypothese zusätzlichen Auftrieb.

Niemand kann mit Bestimmtheit sagen, ob es ihn gibt. Trotzdem ist «Planet 9» gegenwärtig das vorherrschende Gesprächsthema unter Astronomen. Der hypothetische Planet soll mindestens fünfmal so schwer wie die Erde sein und in den Aussenbezirken unseres Sonnensystems seine Kreise ziehen. Gesehen hat die Supererde noch niemand. Bis anhin sind es nur eine Handvoll von kleinen Objekten jenseits des Neptuns, deren Bahnen auf die Existenz von «Planet 9» hindeuten. Artist M.C. Escher Demonstrates His Artistic Process in a Fascinating Documentary on His Life

In 1971, Dutch filmmaker Han Van Gelder captured the artistic incredible process of M.C. Escher in the 20-minute documentary entitled “Adventures in Perception“. The film, part-biography, part artist demonstration was created for The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands program “Living Art The Netherlands”

The first half of the film shows a lot of his work accompanied by a dissonant score by Felix Visser. About halfway through, we see shots of Escher at work, with narration offering biographical information sprinkled with quotes taken from Escher’s own statements over the years.
