Scott Walker moves ever forward, always has. The former child star of stage and screen, US teen singer then UK popstar turned bona fide authentic legend is not one to stand still.  His pop group the Walker Brothers – with John Maus and Gary Leeds, brothers in name only – were the Californian based trio landing in Blighty in 1965 and conquering the hearts of teenage girl Britain with epic ballads The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore and Bacharach and David’s Make It Easy on Yourself, made distinct by Scott’s unsettling baritone.

Liu: Es handelt sich um Graham T. Allisons Analyse über die Kuba-Krise. Darin wird beschrieben, wie sich Präsident Kennedy nach dem Angriff auf die Schweinebucht verhalten hat. Er schien damals nur zwei Möglichkeiten zu haben: Entweder er steht als schwacher Führer da oder aber er startet einen dritten Weltkrieg mit Nuklearwaffen. Kennedy sagte damals: Ihr bringt mir eine bessere, dritte Lösung. Genau an eine solche politische Lösung glaube ich heute auch.

‘Notorious’: Hitchcock’s Mature and Intricate Espionage Masterpiece

… In a conversation with Truffaut, Hitchcock labeled Notorious as an old conflict between love and duty, with Cary Grant’s character forced to push his love interest into the hands of the antagonist, and it was a rather clever construction to examine the value of trust between people in a story staged as an espionage thriller. Moreover, since Notorious features psychologically complex and solidly developed characters, it’s not strange at all that the audience’s affection for the main villain rose up to the surface. Claude Reins’ bad guy is sophisticated, elegant and full of love for the woman he was staged to fall far, a collection of traits that make his character sympathetic and greatly help the film escape from the confinements of a typical black-and-white love story where it’s all too easy to root for a hero. What also makes this film exceptional is the filmmaker’s audacity to toy with the theme of patriotism, portraying the American government as a morally extremely flexible, opportunistic heap of unscrupulous officials, a move both surprising and daring considering the fact the film was made at the end of the Second World War.
